Rosetta Stone lifetime is worth it only if you buy it on a deep promotion and are sure you will use Rosetta Stone for years; against the 12-month plan at €159 a year (checked from Germany on 9 October 2026), it pays off only after you have used the app for as many years as the lifetime price divided by €159.
Checked October 2026 · Rosetta Stone price: €19.99/mo, or €13.25/mo billed €159/yr; lifetime plan priced on the buy page (checked 2026-10-09 (rosettastone.com buy page, shown from Germany))
What the price is
The lifetime plan is sold on Rosetta Stone's buy page, and its price moves with promotions. Searches for a lifetime price of $99 come from sales, which come and go; we did not record a lifetime figure on the day we checked, so look at the buy page on the day you buy, and on a few different days if you can wait.
The subscription prices on the same day, from Germany: €19.99 a month, or €13.25 a month billed €159 a year.
How to work out whether it pays
Divide the lifetime price you see by €159. That is how many years of the yearly plan it replaces. If the lifetime price is under €159, it pays off within the first year; at twice that, you need to keep using Rosetta Stone for two years.
Then be honest about how long you will use it. Rosetta Stone's French takes you to about A1–B1, slowly. Once you are past A2, most learners need real listening and conversation more than another year of the same course.
What the reviews warn about
In the 500 most recent App Store reviews we read, 25 of the 141 one- and two-star reviews were about price, subscriptions and cancelling. Lifetime removes the renewal problem. It does not remove the other big complaint, speech recognition that marks correct French wrong (30 reviews), which you should test in the free trial before paying anything.
Alternatives to compare first
Babbel sells its own lifetime plan at €299.99 and its yearly plan at €107.88, with grammar explained in English; see Babbel lifetime. Duolingo is free. Pimsleur sells one-off levels at $150 each if you prefer to own audio lessons.
Who it's for
Learners who have already used Rosetta Stone's free trial, like the immersion method, expect to keep using it for years, and can buy during a promotion.
Who it's not for
Beginners who have not tried it yet, and anyone whose goal is real spoken French. For that, put the money towards a few tutor lessons and a listening app instead.
