The best Lingopie alternatives for French are LingQ if you want podcasts and articles as well as video, FluentU if you prefer short clips with quizzes, and free YouTube and TV5MONDE if you want real French without paying; which one fits depends on why Lingopie did not.
Checked October 2026 · Lingopie price: €12.99/mo; 3 months €38.97; annual €77.94 (standard €155.88); lifetime €219; 7-day free trial (checked 2026-10-09 (lingopie.com/pricing))
If you want more than TV
LingQ works with podcasts, articles, books and video, each with audio and text, and lets you save unknown words as you go. It suits learners who want to read and listen to a lot of real French, not only watch. Premium is $14.99 a month or $119.99 a year on the US App Store. See Lingopie vs LingQ.
If you want shorter clips with exercises
FluentU uses real French video, from film scenes to music videos, with clickable subtitles and quizzes on the words you meet, and a Chrome extension for Netflix and YouTube. Plus is $239.99 a year ($143.99 on the promotion we saw), monthly from $11.99, after a 14-day free trial. See FluentU vs Lingopie.
If you want it free
Easy French films ordinary people in the street, with French and English subtitles, free on YouTube. TV5MONDE's Apprendre le français has level-graded clips with exercises from A1 to B2, free. You lose Lingopie's click-to-translate tools but keep the real French.
If you want to listen away from a screen
Podcasts give you hours of French on a walk or a commute. Our podcasts page ranks the learner shows by level; many have transcripts.
Audio suits learners whose problem is following speech rather than reading it: with no picture to lean on, your ear does all the work. Pick a show where you follow about two thirds without the transcript, and listen to each episode twice.
If Lingopie felt too hard
That usually means the level, not the app. Drop back to content made for learners, or to a course such as Busuu, and return to TV at B1.
For reference, Lingopie itself costs €12.99 a month or €77.94 a year on the offer we saw (standard €155.88), after a 7-day free trial; see Lingopie pricing.
Who it's for
Learners leaving Lingopie, or comparing it before they start, who know what they want instead: more reading, shorter clips, a free option or audio on the move.
Who it's not for
Beginners looking for a first app. None of these teaches French from zero; start with a course from our Duolingo alternatives page.
